Danvers, located 17 miles north of Boston is approximately 13 miles in area with a population of 24,000.  In the 17th century Danvers was known as Salem Village and was a part of Salem MA.   It was associated with the witchcraft tragedy of 1692 as evidenced by the historic Rebecca Nurse Home  which still remains today on Pine Street. In 1952, Danvers became independent from Salem.

Danvers History

Danversport was a shipping and shipbuilding center where tidal mills flourished. In addition the land was rich for agriculture.  Many farms settled in the town popularizing the name “Onion Town” which still remains today.   Scottish and English weavers settled in Tapleyville in the 1830’s being the focal point of woven carpets.  Danvers Highlands were known for early shoe manufacturing.

Many weddings and functions and tea parties are held in this historic Georgian revival country mansion.

The downtown homey atmosphere and surrounding areas offers shopping, restaurants, Liberty Tree Mall, and two movie complexes. The town also shares an entrance to Beverly Municipal Airport for small aircraft.

Family Festival, the week of July 4th annually, is a festive block party downtown.  Offerings include a parade, concerts at the library, family activities and a barbecue located at Endicott Park.   The fireworks are touted as the best display on the North Shore.

Danvers is also located along the Danvers River and boasts a marina and yacht club for anyone who enjoys boating.  The river flows into Beverly Harbor providing access out to the Atlantic Ocean.
